Microneedling facial treatment is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of tiny needles to puncture the skin, which stimulates collagen production and enhances skin texture and appearance. After undergoing microneedling treatment, it is important to follow proper after-care instructions to ensure optimal healing and results.

We prepared this detailed after-care advice for clients who had a Pro Rejuvenation: Microneedling Facial Treatment at Figaro London with Dermatologica-certified skin therapist Luwam. 9 crucially important steps to make sure you get the most out of the time, money and effort you invest into your facial skincare.

1. Keep the skin hydrated: Moisturising the skin is essential after microneedling treatment. Use a gentle, hydrating moisturiser that does not contain harsh chemicals or fragrances. This will help to soothe and protect the skin, prevent dryness and flakiness, and promote faster healing.

2. Avoid harsh skin treatments: Do not use any scrubs, exfoliants, or peels on the skin for at least one week after the microneedling treatment. These treatments can be too harsh on the skin and cause irritation.

3. Avoid using makeup for a day: It is recommended to avoid using makeup or any other cosmetic products for at least 24 hours post-treatment. The tiny punctures made during the procedure can make the skin more susceptible to infection, and makeup may clog the pores and cause irritation.

4. Avoid hot water: For the first 48 hours after the treatment, avoid hot water on the face, such as in the shower or while washing the face. Use lukewarm water instead as hot water can cause inflammation and aggravate the skin.

5. Avoid sweating: Avoid excessive sweating or working out for at least 24 hours after the treatment. Sweating can cause the pores to clog and lead to infection or inflammation.

6. Avoid sun exposure: For the first few days after the microneedling treatment, it is important to avoid direct sunlight or wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Sun exposure can cause further damage to the skin and impede the healing process.

7. Be gentle with the skin: During the healing process, be gentle with the skin and avoid touching or picking at the treated area. This can cause scarring or infection and interfere with the healing process.

8. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water after the treatment to keep the skin hydrated from within. This will help to promote faster healing and prevent dryness and flakiness.

9. Follow-up treatments: To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to follow up with additional microneedling treatments as prescribed by your skin therapist Luwam. Microneedling is not a one-quick-fix kind of treatment. It takes a few (we usually say at least 4) sessions until you start to see real, meaningful, lasting change.

A Netflix documentary series we think you might enjoy (and benefit from) watching

While you’re here, we’d like to recommend a Netflix documentary series called Skin Decisions: Before and After. It follows the stories of individuals who seek out life-changing cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance and boost their confidence. The show features two renowned experts in the field of aesthetics, Nurse Jamie and plastic surgeon Dr. Sheila Nazarian, who provide their expertise and guidance to clients seeking various procedures such as facelifts, liposuction, and skin rejuvenation. With emotional backstories and powerful transformations, this series explores the intersection of beauty and self-esteem.

Episode 1 features Sanaz’ story who underwent a series of treatments including microneedling to reduce the appearance of her acne scars. The Fixing My Skin episode (number 7 in the series) follows 50-something Kate who – among other more invasive treatments – also has microneedling as part of her personalised treatment plan to achieve a more youthful, fresh glow to her skin. In the same episode, Trevor’s journey is about a young man starting his university studies who suffers from extreme acne. Microneedling is used to treat his scars.
